Eriksholm Research Center is located in a unique period country house, 40 km north of Copenhagen. When Eriksholm was established in 1977, the vision was to create an independent research facility whose primary focus would be on hearing rather than technology alone.

To maintain this focus, Eriksholm encourages hearing-impaired listeners to play a vital role in its research activities. Since its inception almost a quarter of a century ago, about 1200 people have participated in experiments, both in the field and in the laboratory.

Focus on individual aspects of hearing
About 15 people are employed at Eriksholm, specializing in everything from physics to acoustics, physiology, audiology and engineering.

Research revolves around two main themes: psychophysics and technology. Topics include the individual aspects of hearing, the environment, and the lifestyle, personality and listening preferences of people with hearing loss. Research results are shared internationally on a regular basis.

Currently, studies are being conducted on steeply-sloping and high-frequency hearing losses (often caused by excessive noise exposure), the influence of daily listening habits on hearing aid preferences and the special issues that arise when fitting first-time users.
