Providing help

The first thing to do is to gather lots of information. The more you understand about what your friend or family member is experiencing, the more help and advice you can offer. This website is one great resource for you.

Bearing in mind that your friend or relative might resist the idea of testing and treatment, you must try to be helpful and supportive without being forceful or condescending.

Who to contact?

The first person or relative should visit is a general practitioner. The doctor will ask some basic question and perform some simple tests to see how best to treat the problem.

If a hearing aid seems to be the best solution, then the doctor will recommend seeing and Ear, Nose and Throat doctor or a hearing care professional. You can use our Hearing Center Locator from this website to help you find the specialist most suited for your needs.
